Saturday Run

It's been awhile since I've wrote in detail about the smaller runs, but I felt this one was worth noting.

First, I'm in my hometown visiting my mum and dad this weekend. While I'm familiar with the area, I was never a runner in my younger days, so I needed to mapmyrun.com the whole thing before starting.

It should be called out that the weather was perfect today. Mid 60's with a slight breeze and sunshine. Couldn't ask for a better day.

However, I'm staying with my dad whose notorious for not keeping fresh food in the house. While the family and I went out for breakfast (at 9am) the only thing I've eaten since then was chocolate rice crispies. It's not rocket science that one should probably not drink a lot of milk before running.

Sadly, I got a horrendous cramp about 2.5 miles into the run. I was able to shake it off at first to run another half mile, then cramped up again. Spent the next mile doing 200 yard walk/run's.

The worse part of this run was the dogs. Apparently, everyone in this stinking town owns dogs and uses invisible fences to cage them, but neglects to call that out. Now, I love dogs, but when I'm running with nothing but a cellphone and inhailor on me and a Great Dane comes from behind a house at full speed barking and growling his head off at me......let's just say Adam's story of running at home and what he did when he encountered an angry dog came to mind.

This happened with 4 large dogs, and one small dog.

In conclusion, between the milk cramps and snarling dogs, the run could have been better. I may make the drive to the park tomorrow to run in hopes to avoid the latter of the two.

  1. Couldn't you also not drink milk in conjunction with driving to the park to avoid both of these issues?
